Three Months in Martinique Come to an End... What's Next for Wanderlust?

What an adventure this past three months in Martinique has been!

A much needed haulout for repairs and fresh bottom paint had left us feeling exhausted... We are at the end of our metaphorical emotional rope! But three months of non-French speaking debacles left us with a better than ever boat, and a new found love of the island of Martinique. We did it!

We've experienced lots of stress, a few tears, but mostly joy and happiness on this gorgeous French island. Here in Martinique, Ben, Ruca and I have met loads of amazing people from all walks of life, went to Carnival, re-rigged our sloop mast, picked up a painfully small amount of French, gained a few extra pounds from scarfing croissants and baguettes, and got our Wanderlust back up and running. This island, in spite of our circumstances for being here so long, really has stolen our hearts.

It's bittersweet that this marks the southernmost point on our +/- 18 month sailing journey. Tomorrow, we start our first ever northbound course, set for St. John, in the USVI, a two and a half day sail, followed by a few other long hauls through the northern Caribbean, back to a US territory.

As a final destination to get back to work and replenish the sailing kitty, we've chosen warm, sunny St. Thomas as our future home. At this point, we aren't quite sure what "life after cruising" looks like, or if this is really even the end for us. The unknown is exciting and scary all at once, just like the day we left Kansas City in 2015.

We can't wait to find out what's next for the salty crew of Wanderlust! Stay tuned!

Thanks for Reading,

Ben, Quinn and Ruca
