This summer, Ben, Ruca and I were making our way east for hurricane season, looking for a safe harbor to set up camp. We'd just arrived to Puerto Rico via Boqueron, and were continuing our sail of the southern coast of the island. Our second stop along the gorgeous coast was the boardwalk weekenders' town of Ponce.

We arrived to the harbor in Ponce late afternoon, and found a spot, although it was tight, in the deep anchorage among the permanent moorings. The harbor town was absolutely adorable, featuring a couple marinas, folks on kayaks and paddleboards, and the recently built boardwalk, Paseo Tablado La Guancha, lined with quaint restaurants and bars.

We'd arrived on a weekend, and the boardwalk was crawling with local families, young bargoers, and couples heading out for dinner and a drink for the evening. After letting Ruca take a romp and a swim at the marina boat ramp, we decided when in Rome, it was best to do as the Romans do! We headed out for a night on the town before we continued our journey east.

With Ruca snoozing on board and safely out of reach of chasing seagulls and pelicans like a lunatic, Ben and I took stroll with the weekenders, enjoying a few sangrias and Presidentes before dinner, and making a few new "friends" at the seaside!

Ben and I chose a boardwalk bar for a bite to eat, as we watched the sun set over the harbor - what a sight! We had cocktails - WITH ICE! - and despite our salty hair and obvious cruiser attire, we felt like total land lubbers again, for just a day!

As the June full moon rose, we headed back to our home aboard Wanderlust, anchored in the harbor, for a good night's rest.

We'd only planned one day in Ponce, and we were bummed we didn't have time to explore any beaches or the city center. However our big adventure was pushing east, towards Salinas, Puerto Rico.

Thanks for reading,

Ben, Quinn and Ruca
